So let’s talk about it.
So the first question is What WordPress actually is?
WordPress is a free and open-source CMS based on PHP & MySQL for database mainly. WordPress offers two CMS for users to create a website for free. One is WordPress.com and another one is WordPress.org.
Both are functioning differently compared to each other.
Pros & Cons of WordPress.com:
Like I said up there, WordPress.com is a CMS (Content Management System) which manages or you can say operates your website for you.
This WordPress version is a free version for the users and it is very easy to use also.
Those people who want to create a website without any hustle or any hard coding should use WordPress.com for their site.
Pros of WordPress.com
You don’t need to buy a domain name or any hosting server for your website, the WordPress.com does it free of cost and also it has a lot of customizing options for your site.
To set up your site is so easy, it will take hardly 10 to 20 minutes to ready your site.
Cons of WordPress.com
Your domain name will, by default, includes “wordpress.com” extension to your domain. i.e. your domain will “www.yoursitename.wordpress.com.” You also can not upload any custom themes, plugins or modify the code behind your site which makes it very hard to modify or change the site layout or add any additional functions to your site harder.
Pros & Cons of WordPress.org:
WordPress.org is an open-source CMS based on PHP & MySQL.
It uses this version of WordPress, you get the freedom of doing literally anything. This is free to use but also to install and use it, you will need to spend some money on the server for self-hosted data and for the domain.
Cons of WordPress.org:
You have to buy a domain name and a self-hosting server space from hosting service provider; means you need money and knowledge to set a site up.
You have to pay for your own domain name & have to manage your web server space where you will install the WordPress site.
Managing the site and installing the WordPress on the server and connecting the server DNS links of the domain name and the servers to operate the website is not very easy for a newbie.
Pro or WordPress.org:
WordPress.org has so many configurations and options to make your site big and successful. You can download WordPress from the WordPress main site. When you have WordPress installed on your self-hosted site, it opens more control for your website. Cpanel is a tool where you can edit/add/modify any aspect of your website like adding a subdomain for your main website or adding a custom Email for your website with unlimited storage or editing the WordPress files for a better experience.
You can download & upload custom themes, plugins, widgets and also edit the code behind your site for style or anything additional for your website. There are thousands of plugins which are handled and updated by thousands of developers just to make the WordPress experience more fluent and fabulous to use.
If you are not a person who wants to pay any money for hosting & for a domain, you will probably want to use WordPress.com. It is free & easy to set up and also comes with lots of customisable options.
But if you want full control of your site, want to own a hosting site and domain name with lots of configuration of server and site; you will probably go with the WordPress.org
Let me tell you, it’s really great to use WordPress.org (my opinion)
So let me know what do you think about both of them and which one you’re gonna use or if you’re already using it let me know your experience and thoughts about it.
Thank you for reading.
